The study I mentioned is real, and you can find it in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, volume 78, no 4, pages 772 through 790. It turns out that there are VERY few scientific studies that even attempt to examine the connection between violence in video games and violent behavior in real life, and most of them have either super vague results, akin to "people who like football also like watching it on TV", or have biased methodology that shouldn't be accepted to form the basis of a psychological theory. For a summary of the topic, I'd recommend Johnathan Freedman's evaluation of research, published by the University of Chicago.
