CCC 62 - Meanwhile, on Klendathu

There WAS a Starship Troopers video game that came out around three years ago, and was supposedly nightmarishly bad. Hopes and dreams: 0. The crushing thereof: 1. Of course, given the phenomenal success of Second Life and World of Warcraft, the general popularity of science-fiction tropes in video games, and the increased market for small-time developers, I think that there's a good chance that we might see something this badass. And Keith didn't even mention concepts of persistent rank, genuine chain-of-command, a hive-minded AI that controls thousands of drones and responds dynamically to player-initiated combat scenarios, and the possibility of implementing a pilot class, designed as per Heinlein's specifications.
Of course, none of this would be the case if it were based on the 1997 movie. Then you'd just have crappy dialogue, crappy armor, and stupid bugs. Woo totally friggin' hoo.
You may have noticed that this art isn't in the same vein as the last few comics. I've received some negative commentary on it, and two people have said that the older style was better. So, I'm going to try to return to it, at least a little. I do want to keep using the tablet, since it provides me with a huge number of tools that I can use throughout the creative process--most of these panels were at least repositioned after being drawn, which I can't do except with great difficulty sans tablet. However, I'm going to try to go back to the more spartan sketchy style, with a dearth of color and more fluid forms. I'm going to keep the fleshed-out bodies, since I think they offer more comprehensive posing and blocking solutinos, but until I hear more constructive feedback, I won't be able to make more precise alterations to my style.
